What's In A Name

Howdy. This afternoon I am trying to decide on the address I want for these Google Blogs. The free version you get this:

https://whynotbb.blogspot.com/ Your web address will always end with ."blogspot.com"

OR

I can purchase a "Custom Domain" which allows me to show up as :  https://whynotbb.com
However that costs a few bucks and requires that you do a smallish amount of geek work to "install" the domain name onto Googles servers. From past experience that can be a pain. You have to do each step exactly right or it won't work.

Prior to last year, you could just go into the google settings for these blogs and click on "Purchase Domain" Pay your money and Google did all the work. That was much easier. Alas Google stopped offering that service.

So now I'm trying to decide do I want to get this blogspot.com address off my blog or just let it go. It always looks more professional without it. Not sure what I will do. There is a total other way which consists of leaving Google's free service, going and renting some web site storage from one of hundreds of companies that offer this service ( It is a HUGE part of internet commerce) . Then, you have total control of your Blog site. Using WordPress which is currently the number 1 web site software. They make it easy to design and add functionality to your site with little or no coding ability.  That is a whole new world and it is fun to learn and build a site with. But that will cost you monthly fee to "rent" a company's server space.

In the past I have always gone the route of doing it all myself. For me it was a hobby. Now though, I'm getting old and lazy and really not in a rush to do that again. So I'll wait and see. For right now I'm not doing anything. This is all free and pretty easy. A lot I can't do without having my own site, but for now that's fine.

That's all for now.

Be good to each other.

Peace Out
